1. Kits that said the stuff inside could actually be assembled - ha! (Early Chinese tank kits, Verlinden 1/16 armor, etc., etc.)
2. Box top photos that showed a built-up vacuum-formed plane with soft details and so-so fit and alignment when the kit inside was actually quite good. (Ertl XB-35, XB-70) I distinctly remember - on two different occaisons - choosing NOT to buy these kits because the "built-up model" on the box looked so bad.
