Interesting subject.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't foresee one-piece tracks disappearing any time soon, at least not completely. Most of the younger, and even the older (me, old?) casual modelers just won't bother with L-to-L tracks if they don't have to.

DML has understood that, and is now including some very high-quality rubber-band tracks in its Sherman kits. The people at Dragon have no doubt realized that since Sherman tracks generally don't sag - at least not significantly - only a smaller portion of the market for these kits will feel the need to use L-to-L tracks on their Shermans. Tamiya on the other hand, has taken a different approach by offering both one-piece and link-and-length tracks in some of its more recent kits.

Though I have no evidence of any sort to support this claim, I'm willing to bet that given a choice, more than 75% of those who buy kits of tracked subjects are still unwilling to invest their time and/or money on L-to-L tracks, and unless this changes radically in a near future, the one-piece tracks are here to stay.

Cheers!

Charby
