I sincerely doubt that vinyl rubber band tracks will disapper until one of a few things happen:

- The only people left building kits are the die-hard detail fanatics who would replace any kind of tracks provided in the kits anyway. There will be no beginner / intermediate builders left. At that point all kits would probably have individual links -- or --- (tongue in cheek here) the manufacturers will leave out the tracks and rationalize that people will replace them anyway.

- There is a quantum leap in ease of assembly of L and L or individual link tracks. Tamiya put a simple locator pin on their 1/48th scale Sherman kits that made those L and L tracks the easiest I ever built. They're a SNAP, but the old kits with rubber bands, and old style L&L number in the thousands, and, there is no consistent way to make them sag.

DML and Tamiya have both come up with a way to produce paint resistant excellent rubber band tracks that are glueable, if there was just an easy way to make them sag! They're outstanding. That technology alone will probably save them.
