I work in one of this states largest hobby stores, and from what I have seen, kit prices are coming down and we are having a lot more "sales" than we used too !

Why ? we have to just to cover costs. the internet is killing the local hobby store. Most mainstream plasic model builders are no longer loyal to their lhs, and will buy their base kit at the cheapest price - A shop with overhead costs cannot compete with an online marketer - period.

example - here in australia we sell the m26 tractor only dragon wagon for $95au. I can import from thailand or singapore , delivered to my door for about $65au.

I see this with most kits - also the prift margins are getting smaller, once upon a time a few years ago, the standard mark up from wholesale to retail was 100%, now it hovers around 30 - 60%, when you consider the cost of employing someone to sell it , shop rent etc etc theres actually very little in it.

This is an old old arguement i know, probably covered in many other threads, but if people keep buying the cheep version online two things will happen - LHS will close ( where will you go then to rumage the old stock for forgotten kits or even just get a hands on of a new kit)? and secondly more and more people bargain hunting online will only force the prices up, not down so will be counter productive ( ebay is like this now! soo many people on ebay that bargains are harder to find than they were couple years ago)

support your local hobby store with the initial base kit purchase. then buy up online for the aftermarket accesories that no hobby shop could possibly hold an inventory full. and who builds oob anymore?
