I dont think oil prices are affecting the price of kits directly just yet, im sure it will sooner or later.
I think it is affecting kits by the fact people have less disposable cash for their hobby - and as my shop is finding , unless we are competitive we will fail. As it happens, I am told by a rep for an importer that 7 hobby type shops have closed in the first 4 or 5 months on 2008 in Australia ( there are'nt thousands of hobby shops here _maybe_ 50 or 60 nationwide) so thats a sizeable chunk.
on the other hand - petrol so expensive people may start looking for cheap entertainment for home, and modelling a kit oob is a value for money activity. The serious modellers im sure have such a stash that they could lock themselves in a bunker for years and model happilly.
