Although I am by no means a shermaholic I'll try to answer some of your
question by referring to The Sherman in British Service 1942-1945 By John
Sandars, Vanguard no.15. First 300 were mostly cast-hull M4A1 Sherman II but
there were some welded hull M4 Sherman I's & III's.
Then I find reference to M4A2 Sherman III, M4A4 Sherman V, M4A6 Sherman
VII(Article unsure if Brits Got em), M4A3 Sherman IV(76mm 1944 few), In
italy they used the 105 mm version (suffix B)[not the up armoured
Jumbo].Plus of course all the odd balls eg.DD's flails,ARV's rear link radio
tanks, Artillery OP's etc..
Colours :: Early Mid East: came in Olive Drab. Usually changed to more
appropriate desert colours. Contrasting colour [ at the C.O.'s decretion ]
over Light or Portland stone, from Dec42 Dark Green over Desert Pink, June
43 onward Blue-Black over Light Mud.
Info from "Colour Plates":
M4A1 Sherman II Alamein Dark Green over Stone
Sherman I Sicily Overall Bronze Green
Sherman I Sicily Light Mud/Blue-Black
Sherman V Burma (No colour stated but ink seems same as used
to represent Bronze Green {Just a
guess}But British Tank Markings and Names state yhey
were painted Jungle Green which is stated as a
very dark olive green which soon faded to a
lighted shade)

From 1944 they were probly found in both Middle Bronze Green and Olive
Drab
As allways it's best to get a second opion as the books I used are all
about 20 years old and more information has probobly come to light since
they were printed. Also remember there will always be acceptions to the
rules. Try Posting yor query to track-link.research.ww2
