Ed,
According to the article the weapon tested out very well and
maintained it's accuracy. The OK wasn't given though because the war was
coming to a close and the "western" Allies weren't facing as much German
armor.

It would be an interesting model to make. The article features some
pretty clear pictures, and it looks as if all the "designers" did was
lop off the back end body of the jeep and place the 57 mm gun on to the
frame directly. The only modifications I can see to the gun is the
removal of the wheels and transport carriage; otherwise it looks to be a
complete weapon.

I think this picture illustrates another point about modeling "fantasy"
armor; just because photos don't currently exist doesn't mean it wasn't
built. Many people wouldn't have believed this proposed jeep variant
existed until they saw pictures of it. Yet it did, and the photographic
evidence is only now apparent. Many others wouldn't believe the Germans
used T-34 tracks as additional armor on their vehicles until they saw
pictures of it. Well they did, and thankfully photos now verify this
piece of information. So did other types of vehicles exist, like a
Calliope type launcher on an M8 or M20 armored car chassis? Did the
Soviets mount the launch system of the BM-13 to tracked vehicles, say
maybe some old KV chassis or M5 Lend Lease chassis? These too would make
interesting model possibilities as well. But again, read my other post
about my "modeling philosophy"......do what ya want and have fun doing
it.

Hope I'm not sounding political,
Steve
