Subject:  Re: How much does "money" affect your model buying?List thread.

Money matters to me!
Frankly, I can't see spending more on tracks (MK or Fruilmodel) than on a kit.
I think Ihave gotten the most enjoyment out of the DML kits I have built, and
they were all much cheaper than Tamiya kits.

As this thread seems to be a combination of how money affects buying and "Why
are Tamiya kits so expensive?!?", I thought it was pretty funny when I bought
the new Academy M3 Honey for $22 at the store down the street, because there
were all the Tamiya rereleased M3/M5 series vehicles going for about $16 to $20
each piled next to the Academy kit. I would NEVER spend that much on those old
kits. Granted, they are easy to build, but I know the Academy kit is better!
Back when I was a kid and buiding kits at first, Tamiya were head and shoulders
better than the rest. Academy's first efforts were all rip-offs (hence the
recent misguided threads on Missing Links), so Tamiya earned a name brand
advantage! I guess that name brand is worth a few bucks!!

Anyway, I now have more kits than I could ever build, and those rare kits
always get rereleased EVENTUALLY! Buying a Sherman for more than $25 seems
crazy, and given the number of great kits one can get for less than $30 I'm not
sure why anyone buys those expensive Tamiya kits. Of course, a kit that cost me
$25 on eBay is $55 in the Hobby Shop, so that is part of the story too.
