I agree with Paul and Frank about the Warrink brothers.

Also, a good colour reference for the way things looked, is the book: GI
Victory, The U.S. Army in World War II Color by Jeffrey L. Ethell and David
C. Isbay. Although the colours could be off due to shifts in the film
colour balance, it does give an excellent impression of what actual
wathering in WW 2 looked like.

Many of the pictures are stateside, or posed, but there is a fair number of
photos of tanks and equipment in Europe and the Pacific.
