| Subject: | How to make decals? | |
| Date: | Aug 20, 2002 |
| From: | Tim Streeter | |
I'm about to embark on my firt attempt to make decals, and I'm a bit
confused by the info I've gleaned from searching the topic on the web.
(I'm printing ammo crate and charge canister data with a Lexmark injet
printer using black and yellow.)
I have on hand a few sheets of Walthers' decal paper (which says "flat"
on the back side) and a bottle of Microscale's Liquid Decal Film.
The Decal Film instructions say to spread it on a sheet of decal paper,
print the image on it, and then seal it with another coat of film.
Several web sites say to just print the image directly on the decal
paper, then seal it, either with a product similar to Microscale's or
with an acrylic or enamel clear spray.
Naturally, I'd like these decals to be as thin as possible, and not
waste too much paper in the process.
1. Does Walthers' decal paper come with a carrier layer already on it,
so I don't need to bruch on an initial coat of Decal Film?
2. One site recommends Krylon Acrylic Crystal Clear High Gloss spray as
the final sealer. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would a
flat sealer produce better final results? (I've given a gloss coat to
the crates and canisters, and will follow with a flat coat after the
decals are dry.)
Thanks in advance,
