Well, it seems that boiled down to its essence this is a matter of
semantics. The concern is what constitutes a review and what has been called
an "infomercial". So if ML were to call these reviews something like "What's
New" then there would be no issue?

I had a look at your "serious review" Tim and pasted it below:

"The poses of the three shivering figures in this set virtually mirror the
now out of production trio offered by Yanks some years ago. This is not too
surprising when you realize both were sculpted by Bill Chilstrom. Standing
around the fire in an old oil drum, one figure leans forward, warming his
hands. Another has his arms across his chest, his hands slipped into the
opposite sleeves to keep warm. Whereas the third figure in the Yanks set
had his hands thrust deep into his pockets, the GI here blows on his fingers
trying to keep them warm.
All three wear the long wool meltons. Two have rubber overshoes on their
feet, while the third wears buckled boots. One figure has belt pouches for
BAR ammo, while the others are equipped for Garand ammo. Though each figure
is accessorized with canteens, entrenching tools and bandage pouches, no
weapons are included with the set."

Apart from the tidbit about the sculptor (which is labelled on the box art)
& the history of the Yanks genealogy, the entire two para's are just a great
written description of what could quickly & easily be determined from a
small scan of the box art, or perhaps even including a link to the relevant
figure if copyright issues are a concern.

Your review continues:

"The CD figures are sharply sculpted, with nice undercuts for the jackets
and collars. They are a bit shorter and thinner than the Yanks yanks,
standing about 5'9". Helmet size scales to the more accurate Tamiya
standard."

The three lines above (assuming I am familiar with the earlier Yanks
release) is the type of info that is germane to an in-box review.

And lastly:

"If you're lucky enough to have the Yanks trio, this makes an excellent
addition to portray the harsh circumstances GIs faced in Belgium in 1944."

Which sounds like a pretty fair recommendation with a bit of info on where I
might geographically situate these figures in a vignette or dio. So you can
see that an in-box figure review can pretty much be written in point form,
provided that a picture, either unpainted or finished is included.

Here is an ML review/infomercial for comparison:

"Cleanly cast as per the usual Warriors standard, this figure has a slightly
odd title as he's clearly sculpted/painted as Wehrmacht MG Gunner with Heer
collar lintzen and breast eagle. But either a typo or simply only minor work
involved in converting him over to an SS figure if this is your preference.
He's depicted as a typical infantry MG-42 gunner in the standard M36 tunic
with jackboots. Initially released with the "Road to Stalingrad" sectioned
T-34 Vignette #35256, but is now available separately. Depicted in an
unusual kneeling pose and with nice touches such as bare head, the bandaged
hand and ammo belt draped around the neck, he'll be a handy inclusion in a
lull in fighting type dio or vignette"

Bearing in mind there is a photograph right above this review (which also
identifies the sculptor), this text gives me info on casting quality. It
assumes I am familiar with the warriors standard, the same as yours assumes
I am familiar with the Yanks standard. It also give me some good info with
respect to a discrepancy between the box art and actual title of the figure.
It also tells me this figure's genealogy is from a previously released
vignette.

I'm still not enlightened as to see how your example constitutes what you
call a "serious" review versus an ML "infomercial"? Is it because yours says
the figures scale out to 5'9"? Surely there has to be more than that?

Cheers,
Graeme
