Hi David,
I have the kit, it is an Maquette wheel and track set with new hull and a
modified Alan SiG33 gun. I found that the vehicle need to have the angle
iron removed from the joint between the hill sides and fighting compartment
extensions (not really needed since tracks and mud would cover it. The
protrusions on the back plate should be angled down wards instead of
perpendicular to the plate since it needs to match up with the start hole on
the engine bulkhead inside the fighting compartment (again, not noticeable),
The handles on the engine hatches should be replaced with something more to
scale (Eduard set does that), The gun barrel can be replaced. I used
Armo's set but tossed the included rifling. Instead, On The Mark Models
rifling was used. Tiger Model Designs updates are recommended.
The kit tracks are fine. I did replace the sprocket with a Ft. Duquesne
item from their update sets but it was not necessary.
If you must, Tamiya's Marder IIIM can be used and adapt the Alan gun to it
with a new barrel.
The side of the driver's extension needs the five bolts. Inside the front
final drive mounts, there should be flush screws in place of the raised
bolts so as to remove the glacis plate. I used Maquette's interior to
detail up the Grille (slight mods needed). Keep in mind, it is a fun kit.
By that I mean it responds well to what you add. OOTB, it is good. With
some work, it is great. If you want great without the fun of working it,
try the Tamiya/Alan combo mentioned. Either way, reference photos on the
web are on www.tanks2scale.com. Sadly, they are down due to server problems
but hopefully they will be up again.
