Some of Tamiya's mold components were probly made on a Mitsui copy of a Swiss Surface grinder knock off. This machine was copied down to the lead plug used to drain the coolant when used as a wet grinder. No provision for wet grinding was avaliable for this machine when released. Mitsui later formed a joint venture with Blum to manufacture surface grinders.

This is from personal experience and I have seen the machine.

The point I am trying to make is that companies in the far east would do what they could to upgrade thier equipment in the 60's and 70's.

Trumpeter is just following the custom of the area to get started, and like Academy, are now moving
on to better designs of thier own.

Just my 10 yen worth.
