Pat, would you mind writing to me in private and letting me know which of the vendors made that kind of statement to you? If nothing else, I'd like the people on top to know that this took place. If enough people have had bad experiences, he would probably (almost definitely) lose his privileges. Every year vendors try to get into the show and there is a long waiting list. If what you are saying is true, perhaps the offending vendor might want to sell somewhere else. AMPS certainly cannot control how much someone wants to charge for an item, but it can control the way that people are treated. Are you sure the "you can't afford it" line wasn't said in jest? I'm not defending anyone but I know I've heard that line before at many shows and everyone understood the real meaning (ie. none of us make enough money to afford something that expensive).
On a personal note, I've found a few vendors who feel that they can go to a show the size of AMPS and expect retail prices when the same product is available at 25-30% with the adjacent vendor! At some point they will either get with the program or eventually leave. In the meantime, as a buyer you should look around.
As for items being sold, it definitely is best to get there at noon on Friday or even better volunteer to judge and attend the meeting on Friday morning at 9:30am. That gets you into the vendor room about 45 minutes before the show actually opens. So besides getting a cool tee shirt and a limited edition mug, you also get first crack at the vendors! Quite a reward for just 4 hours of your time over two days.

BTW- AMPS cannot control the I-95 traffic either! ;-)
