Well Pete, you just hit one of my pet peeves. A lot of "collectables" I see these days are specialized, niche market toys. This is mainly because a friend of mine used to buy SW action figures as an "investment" and kept them all in the boxes unopened. This bugs me to no end. Toys are meant to be played with, not oogled over and speculated upon. If you want to speculate to make money, there's always the stock market. All the money you were thinking about investing in collectables in hopes they increase in value should instead be spend on the market; you'll probably make more money if you make the right choices, plus its more exciting and at least your money is working instead of sitting on a shelf waiting to be sold!

IMHO if I had a boxed Optimus Prime, mint, I would STILL rip it open and play with it for a while before I gave it to a needy kid. Yeah I'd blow several hundred dollars, but I'd feel happier knowing someone is getting joy out of something I got joy from as a kid.

And BTW, Models are also meant to be built. Don't let them sit in the closet hoping they'll increase in value...

Damon.
