I pretty much echo the thoughts of the other gentlemen that responded to
your post.

I collected comics as a kid not for the investment value but because I
enjoyed the art and stories. It was always a bonus if the comics appreciated
in value. I still have many of my comics (gone through a few phases when I
discovered girls and sold off my comic collection and then realised my
comics would be around a lot longer than many of my girlfriends so I got
back into comics)

I also built models through this period and have recently returned to the
hobby (ok ok if you consider 2 years recent).

I consider both hobbies similar in many ways. The hunt for the specific
comic issue to complete a run is like the hunt for the reference photo to
help complete part of a models and in many ways working on the model.

I agree with the idea that once a run is complete there is not allot to be
done with the comics but to reread them or move on to the next comic book to
collect. Though again this is not unlike completing a model and starting
another one.

It is about personal enjoyment. If you enjoy making money then I think that
speculating in collectibles can be a good way to-do so (as long as you
research the trends and buy low and sell high) hmm sounds allot like the
stock market...and sometimes just as risky.

I could go on (and usually do) but I also realise that life is to short to
worry about the "monetary value" of everything. Take enjoyment out of what
you do and if you find you can't move on... You can always come back for
more (unlike some girlfriends I had )

Cheers, Michael
