I'm no medical expert but I think this SARS thing is definitely overblown by the media creating an atmosphere of paranoia. I am not taking any special precautions in handling items from the Pacific Rim (and I DO have some things coming in from the Phillipines) or in daily life despite the fact that there is one confirmed SARS case in my local area (in the Lehigh Valley, PA). However, check http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/sars/ for more information. In a nutshell, just use common sense and do the things you normally do to prevent illness (washing regularly, covering mouth when sneezing/coughing).

I have a friend who is a mortician, and in his job he can deal with diseases far worse than SARS, and he said there is not much more you need to do to protect yourself than using common sense. This whole situation reminds me of the "Terror" alert reccommendations they did here in the States, like covering your house and windows with duct tape and plastic to defend from chemical weapons. Hogwash!

Damon.
