I noticed this too. See, with most other hobby items (take PC games as an excellent example), the price goes DOWN over time. But not so with model kits (at least it takes a while for the price to lower).
OK, so factor in the cost of gas and so forth and so on to make the kits and the price goes up. OK, that may be logical. But take into consideration that the wholesale price of the Tamiya Humvee is $20 USD and the MSRP is $36! I got my Humvee for $20.
BUT...I take these price hikes with the philosphy of the "Gasoline Tax to Repair Highways." Each year, DML figure kits increase in price by 50 U.S. cents. But IS THIS MONEY going towards research for the figures or into someone's pocket? Does the figure sculptors and box artist and researcher ever SEE these profits to help them with their work? (I already know the answer to this but won't say it).
Just like the gas tax---I'd be massively pissed if my gas tax went into someone's pocket instead of into materials to repave the highways.
Business 101: A certain percentage of profits should be reinvested into the business. (My addendum: How about reinvested in that PARTICULAR AREA of the business? Such as 1/35 figures and the people who make them?).
So the increased price in plastic 1/35 figures doesn't mean the profits are reinvested in 1/35 figures. Bah! Phooey!
It's all politics on Dragon's part and the shameful part is Freddie Leung was rich already when he started his toy business in his garage way back in the 1980s. He's well-known among the Hong Kong magazines as being very rich---so rich he has personal bodyguards (plural, not singular).
My five cents.
