A good issue this month , in which you’ll find the following armour
related articles :
- a 6 page1/35 construction article by Steve Zaloga entitled “Italian
Panzer”. The author builds the Cri-El Models P40 resin kit straight from
the box and places it on a small diorama base, with a German tanker
getting a wounded crew member out of the turret under the close
surveillance of a GI armed with an M1 rifle. Very nice (and complicated)
camo job and good reference photographs from P40s in WII and preserved
tanks in museums.
- a 6 page1/35 “how to” article by Andrew Dextras on “Painting and
Weathering AFV Models”. Although the style is different this reminded me
of another such article written by Cookie Sewell and published many
years ago in Fine Scale Modeler. Andrew uses a Tamiya Leopard 2A5 for
his demonstration, there are LOTS of step by step photographs. Overall a
very interesting article. For a slightly different weathering style on
the same model, have a look at Gilles Peiffer’s Leopard 2A5 in
Track-Link’s Gallery.
- a 4 page diorama article by Lester Plaskitt featuring a Desert Sabre
era British Army Scimitar blocked on a road by a stubborn camel lying on
the surface. It’s a beautiful vignette which I had seen at Euromilitaire
(it won a bronze medal). Furthermore the article is well written and
very informative on the modifications made and techniques used.
Last but not least Track-Link gets a mention in Robin Buckland’s “Small
Scale Scene” Column and I quote :
“Internet
First mention this month is the reincarnation of Track-Link. This
popular website www.track-link.net did sort of ‘disappear’ for a bit,
but has been redesigned and is now up and running as well as ever. It
has quite a different look to it, but contains the same useful content,
including its discussion groups, which also includes one devoted to
small scale.”
Next issue will have an article on Tamiya’s 1/16th scale Tiger I.
Cheers,
Christophe |
