Interesting. I just went to the "Renaissance Festival" just outside
Toronto this past weekend for the third time. It has always been an
inexpensive day trip that I, my wife and two kids thoroughly enjoy (and
my wife hates that sort of fantasy/historical stuff). The entrance is
cheap (Cdn$17), they let you bring in anything you want to eat or drink.
The food vendors are reasonably priced. The games are fun for the
smaller kids, the really good beer is cheap (Cdn$3.00), the characters
in costume are part of a story line that humourously evolves over the
day, and the entertainment is both a little bawdy (in a good time way)
and very well done.

All in all a really good deal. The one you went to seems like it could
learn a lot from the one near here.
