I must have been unclear. The bolts are *there* in every vehicle, hence Hilary draws them. But in the earlier vehicles their tops are flush with the roof, making them very hard to see.
BTW there are similar bolts in the hull roof for holding up the radio and ammunition racks. Nobody asks about them!
