There are some bad castings out there but the industry have improved drastically in the last two decades.
I found Hobby Fan, Armo, Azimut, Blast Models, Cromwell Models, CMK, MR Models, Formations, Des Kits, Mig Productions, Panzershop, PSP, Precision Models, Legends, Calibre 35, Verlinden, Elite, Tiger Model Designs and many others to have excellent quality castings. Of course from time to time you'll find a kit or conversion from those guys that is not great but generally amongst their older products (I'm just talking casting quality, not tackling the issues of accuracy, ease of build or adequate instructions).
Accurate Armour are also very good.
The bad ones I won't mention out of charity...
