| Subject: | Re: Hobby Shop Owners: How Was 2003? | |

Hi Peter,
I'm not a shop owner, but a customer thats becoming a little dismayed at the
pricing of some products. Prices of Tamiya kits, Eduard PE sets, for
example, have gone bezerk in Canada. I know its affected my shopping habits
and those of friends. And the shops I frequent are definitely less busy than
they used to be. A SRP of $74.99Cdn for the 1/20 Williams BMW FW24 kit that
has a MSRP of 2900yen($35Cdn) in Japan has me puzzled and turns off
potential customers. So out of curiousity, I started a poll on my Yahoo!
Groups MotorcycleModelling and here is the question and results:
Questions: "Ever spiraling prices on Tamiya kits in Canada and elsewhere
outside of Japan has me wondering... How has Tamiya prices affected your
shopping habits?"
Responses (47 votes):
5 (10.64%) voted: No change, I never hestitate to buy locally no matter what
the price.
4 (8.51%) voted: I don't buy as many kits as I used to and don't mail order
either.
21 (44.68%) voted: I now mail order some of my kits, but still buy fewer
kits.
10 (21.28%) voted: I now mail order all my kits and buy everything I want.
7 (14.89%) voted: I always mail ordered to get my kits.
