Since I can't print my own money (thats illegal) current Toronto pricing is
forcing a lot of local modellers to shop around for the best prices, or more
seriously, stop shopping completely or serious reducing purchases. If the
only way to get a decent price is mail ordering, then so be it.
Sorry, but I will not pay $70-75Cdn + tax for a Tamiya 1/20 Williams BWM
FW24 locally when it can be bought in Japan for 2900yen($35Cdn). And when
you do the math, about 16,000 of the little buggers can fit in one 40ft
shipping container. Thats just $3.12Cdn/kit shipping if the container cost
$50,000 to ship. I've been told that $50G is "silly", so shipping/kit is
pretty cheap for Borgfeldt.
I could mail order ONE FW24 from Japan, pay shipping, GST & PST, and $5 fee
to Revenue Canada and still have the FW in my hands for $60Cdn, or save at
least $20 over locally pricing. Now if I order THREE kits from Japan, I save
at least $92 or $30.66/kit. Sorry, I will not subsidize a local shop to the
tune of $30/kit. Could you please tell me where in T.O. I can get the FW24
for $50-55Cdn+tx. Enjoy the scavenger hunt!
When I see stupid prices like a Dragon Elefant for $79.99Cdn + tax and a
Tamiya FAMO w/Trailer for $289.99Cdn + tax, I'll switch into bargain hunt
mode in an instant.
BTW Ed, Military Hobbies has a store front in Markham and not a cow pasture
like other mail order operations.
