Hi Doug,
Out of sheer curiosity, what is the development process for these covers?
Once you know the subject, do you base the painting on photos, a plastic
model (like Vince Wai did), or Imagineering?
Are the markings provided to you at the time of the commission?
Last, the amount of detail you put into a painting, is it based on time or
preference?
Since I already know Dragon makes excellent kits, I do not care if the
illustrations are the best but am happy that they take the time to include
them.
Tamiya has made illustrations that could be used as reference material most
of the time and Ron's artwork also is quite detailed. Vincent Wai's artwork
involved motion but I did not care for the times that a photo of the model
was incorporated into the painting.
I haven't painted since I got married (I paint nudes and the wife doesn't
look keenly upon that ;-)) but am quite interested in the choices artists
make and the images they convey.
