"Whats the difference between dry transfers and the normal ones you get in kits??"
Dry transfers are rubbed on to the model, no water, no film - great stuff!!! Check out: http://www.archertransfers.com/ .
"When you said that you gloss coat then do other stuff then matt coat, putting the gloss coat on usually darkens the overall colour."
True, however the matte coat usually lightens it back out. Between my filters and washes and clear coats, the tint changes back and forth anyway so I do not worry about it. The overall look I try for is a natural range of shades anyway to give the model 'life.'
"And in the 3rd, I see where they are coming from. sticking the decals to wet paint but that doesnt get rid of the shine on the decal itself."
True, no matter what you will probably want to give a final coat of matte to get all reflections equal. This is usually the case no matter what as even when applying dry transfers, which are pretty matte, the finish still probably doesn't exactly match the paint around it.
