A few of our fellow modelers don't understand (or don't want to understand) this and think that they can post pages of text and multiple graphics with the publication's captions and croping intact "for private study." (Anybody seen anything private on the internet?) Even a few authors apparently haven't read the small print at the front of their books (whose distribution and sales rights now belong to the publisher) that says "no part, no way" except short passages in legitimate reviews.
What those fellow modelers are doing is making it harder and harder for publishers to make money unless the publishers charge so much that they recoup expenses and make a profit in the first run before things get illegally "published" on the internet. This will only mean fewer, more expensive books with new research and graphics.
Those fellow modelers don't like to have their actions called stealing, but that is just what it is.
Ian has most generously made available good scans of his private images. The community owes him a real debt of gratitude. He certainly doesn't deserve any hassles for being honorable.
