The problem with picking a 1/35 hull is that, technically, the hull has to fit in the C-130. By using the dimensions of the hold of the C-130 as a constraint, and the width and length of the donor vehicle, one can see problems. Try shoehorning an Abrams hull in a C-130. If one poses a 1/35 figure next to the FCS conversion, one can indeed see the width of the Abrams hull and automatically say this conversion is bogus.
The best 1/35 hulls would be the Stingray, MTVL, CCVL, or M8 AGS since these have the correct size and roadwheel configurations. If one uses say the Paladin or M1, then the hatches and everything else would have to be a lot larger and force the model to have a scale of 1/25 scale instead of 1/35 since the FCSs aren't that large. If one poses a 1/25 soldier next to a 1/35 Abrams hull, that'll work since that forces the Abrams hull to appear smaller than the figure.
My rant has more to do with raising a flag to the fact that there are still many areas left unexplored in the 1/35 AFV arena. The "unbelievable" I stated comes from the fact that the FCS looks so strikingly simple, and yet no 1/35 vehicle, save perhaps the Sheridan or Scimitar (but wrong number of roadwheels), can even match it in size, never mind looks. So there still exists room and generas for model companies to expand to.
Of course the FCS is all conjecture so anything goes :-). I'm not going to sweat this one. However, this is very similar to going to the model shop for a modern police car or fire engine and finding zippo. Sure, such models may not sell, but it is amazing to know that the "modern" plastic fire engine kit is around 1970s style.
One can get a truck and try to make a pumper out of it, but the results just aren't the same :-).
There are still AFV generas unexplored up for companies to grab...FAVs being one of them :-).
