Hello! I used to have some velcro pocket closings in the combat uniform during my Army service in Finland. You're quiter right new velcro makes noise and can be surpringly difficult to open in prone positions. However, after a short while it becomes very handy. I know I liked it. It doesn't brake down like zippers and it's light and it doesn't hurt if one happens to fall on it. One disadvantage of velcro is that it doesn't take too much dirt. But then again, it's easy to replace.

Those new camo patterns have to be devilish to paint in 1-35th scale. Luckily I'm more focused on the WWII.

Cheers,
Mikko
