Sure there are examples of newcomers re-doing oldy/moldy Tamiya kits:

Tam Hanomag 251/1 --- AFV Club & DML
Tam 251 ausf D --- AFV CLub
Tam 250/5 Grief and 250/9 --- DML 250 series
Tam M41 Bulldog --- AFV Club & Skybow
Tam Panther A --- Italeri & DML
Tam Pz II F/G -- Alan (DML)

But, let's see who really started this all. Remember the Tamiya Tiger I Steel Wheel in 1989? In my mind, that's a benchmark of 1/35 model production.

What comes from them afterwards?

Panther G series
More Tiger Is
Tiger II series
new Jeep
new kubelwagen
new schwimmwagen
2 Marder IIIs
Centaur
Cromwell
Pz III ausf L
Pz IV ausf H
Pz IV ausf J
Mobelwagen
T-55
M26 Pershing
FAMO & sdAnh 116
Dragon Wagon
Japanese MBT
Steyr 1500A
Steyr Kommandeurwagen
Jagdpanther
StuG III ausf G
Sherman M4A3 105
German bicyclists
German motorcycle
US M-8 a/c
US M-20 a/c
1/16 Pershing, Tiger
plus a few figure sets and probably a few other kits I've missed.

Sure they reboxed some other kits (Univ Carrier, M4A3, Hummer, Churchill, Pz IV J w/PE zimm, etc.)

What was the cost for them to tool up these kits? It's nice to notice the new kids on the block (Trumpeter, AFV Club, DML) but let's not bash Tamiya too much, eh? We owe them a whole lot.
