Relax and have some guilt-free fun Yc!
Just remind yourself of what you are doing: saving a mongrel model from the plastic dogpound! Accept the challange and have fun doing it.

Anyone can do a shake n bake model, it takes skill and patience to turn a pig's ear into a silk purse. Just have fun doing it.

Your'e a kindred spirit guy! I do - and look forward to - the exact same things; took the much-maligned Zvesda T60 - and finished it as best as I could while practicing my whitewash skills. Fine tuning my finishing skills without fear of wrecking a pricier kit.

Took the twin CCLee T34 kits, finished the T34/76 1941/42 and finished it as best as I could OOTB, all seams, pin marks, etc, carefully worked over, etc. Treated the build/finish process as if it were a $40.00 Tamiya kit. Build confidence in oneself for when the time comes to tackle that expen$ive kit.

I'm working over the Lee T34/85 right now, using as many household bits and pieces as possible to substitute for PE and fiddly "details", again - building a dogpound pup into something to look at - and as cheap as possible. There is a degree of satisfaction in acheiving a result where others simply sneer.

Other dogpound pups include a Lindy T55 and their T80, I can't wait to get a leash on them.

Past pups included the AMT/Ertl "T74" and Hasegawa 1/72nd Tiger I "Final".

Meanwhile, my mucho-easier to build Tamiya kits sit on the shelves - they're not as much fun as "trying this" or "trying that" - all without fear of the dreaded A M S roadblock or worse - a mistake.

I mean - how many of us have accumulated the tons of aftermarket bits and referances to tackle that ultimate and expen$ive Tamiya kit - only to run into paralysis from analysis.

Instead, we can play with the plastic puppys and have fun doing it!
