I have been writing in-box reviews since the late 1980s and would certainly not waste my time if I thought they were useless to all modelers.

Many modelers, myself included, wish to take advantage of some "recon" that has been performed before we decide to make a purchase.

When I do an in-box review, I always cut apart the main parts and do a dry fit to see where problems may lurk. I just did so with the DML Pz. I Ausf. B, but took it a step further in that I actually glued the outer panels in plsce, after careful dry-fiting and clean up. Result? No gaps, no problems. See my review on Missing Links.

For this, a friend has christened me "the incomplete modeler".

Another thing I like about in-box reviews is that one can see what other things come in a kit. For instance, what markings are given, what options are given and of course, what problems the reviewer may have discovered.

Not to mention that a picture is worth a thousand words, so I am very grateful when a reviewer takes the extra time from building models to include images with the review.

In box reviews? GIVE ME MORE!!!

Frank
