Obviously, in-box reviews take less time to write. Given the fact that many modelers don't care to post, reply, or let alone write reviews, not having in-box reviews really whittles down the list of review submitters.

Another problem I find is AFV-modeling itself. There have been quite a few AFV and figure models I converted, kitbashed, or used spare parts from. As such, I don't review these because I actually didn't build them out-of-the-box, using every part in the kit. Hopefully someone else will review them, but to date, I haven't seen a lot of duplicate reviews on the DGs these days. Just because someone was the first to review doesn't mean that's the definitive review (take a look at Amazon.com and how some products get 100 customer reviews).

What I am saying is that the DGs are no longer what they once were in terms of participation what with all the past flames and newbies. To have a review, any review, helps given that the reviewer pool seems a bit shallow now. After all, the info is free. Pawel's and Terry Ashley's in-box reviews are very helpful, but look at the amount of time and photos they devotes to each review.

For me, it takes about an hour to two hours to write any review since I'm so darn verbose.

Also, remember in-box often can slide without digital camera photos. Build reviews often requires a digital camera to tell the story or one can write 1,000 words describing a problem and the reader will still be lost, or get bored.

Currently, most of my builds have not been out-of-the-box anyway. How can one review say, "I used this part from that kit and that part from this kit and that part from this kit and this part from that kit..." The reader would think, "Man, this guy is RICH :-)! So to make his figure, I would need seven different kits? What, HE CRAZY :-)?" So I don't write build reviews even though I'm building.

Of course the above could be an article instead...if only I had a digital camera :-).
