I've seen posts of buying wish lists and posts of "I wish they'd make this" wish lists, but I'm interested if modelers actually built (not bought) what they wanted to make.
Military-wise, I think I did pretty well. I have close to 200 1/35 DML modern figures and LOTS of 1/35 DML guns painted.
I built two DML Delta figures (one converted), three SWATs (police fan here), and have gone 1/16 into Afghanistan (Airborne Miniatures) and Iraq (Tamiya OIF...that is IF I care to paint it DBU). So I have indeed satisfied my desire for the most modern figures out there. (Some figures need to be painted though).
I've built the very big (Challenger 2, M1A2) and the very small (Wiesel 1 20mm). I've gone into IFV (Marder 1A3), but haven't dipped into APC (not that I wanted to that badly, but I do have the Azcharit unbuilt).
I wanted the best SPH, so I started the PZH2000. I wanted a DPV, so I bought AEF's SEAL DPV, only to convert it to sci-fi due to quality issues. But I consider that my DPV nonetheless. I wanted a Dumvee, which no one makes, so I took the Tamiya Humvee, Hobby Fan's ROC Humvee, and made a pretty nice Dumvee and also satisfies my guntruck want. This is 90% complete.
LAVs...been there..LAV-25 and LAV-AD, the only two I wanted. Humvees...Academy's M1025 and M996 TOW...the only ones I wanted. Engineering and logistics...I don't want to go there and never did. Jeeps...M151 (1983, my first military model) and started the IDF Shimira.
I haven't satisfied all my building dreams though. I still wish to make a SAM AFV (preferrably Russian...the 5-Star Tunguska caught my eye, but I never bought it) and never did buy a "big gun, small chassis" AFV such as the AML-90. I also have the USMC M151 FAV kit unbuilt. Another desire I want to build is the AH-6J and Coree VBL. I want to build the Centauro when one comes out. I HAVE bought what I do want, but haven't built these AFVs yet (perhaps my desire isn't that strong for these kits yet).
So, of all your modeling years, have you actually BUILT (not bought) what you really wanted?
