Well, it is now a mute point anyway as the trip just got canceled today, but for what it is worth, in Japan, Americans don't need a Visa for stays under 90 days according to United Airlines. I figured that I would allow 5 hours for clearing customs, finding way out of airport, and getting back through security and 3 hours to make my way to a relatively close by shop (if one existed), shop, and get back to the airport.

Thanks,
Adam
