| Subject: | Re: Selling Models on eBay... | |

Hi.
1.) Why is it that some crappy looking built models sell for top dollars online? Is the final bid price realistic or were they boosted by illegal bids from associates to the seller?
No idea. You can never tell what some folks will want...
2.) How to pack a model so that it doesn't get damaged along the way?
I have done this a few times. I used the box in a box method. Pack the item securely in a box just larger than the kit. If it's on a base, screw the base to the box. If that isn't an option find a way to 'wedge' the model in place with some non-scuffing material. Use styrofoam around the base, whatever. Label the box with the 'open this end' and 'keep upright' clearly indicated. Pack that box in another much larger box full of packing peanuts, air bags or whatever. I've sold a few things on eBay, and shipped that way with no problems. Some stuff does break, but you sell it with the warning that some small parts may have to be repaired etc. I moved all my stuff from Texas to NY, using this method. The kits were moved by movers into a truck, then into a storage locker, then from storage locker to our new house. Not one thing was damaged. NOTHING! It was a miracle.
3.) Would un-painted but fully built and customized models sell?
Anything will sell. People by completed kits and partial kits for spares. Of course, you can't expect to get too much for that sort of thing. Use lots of high quality pictures! Link to nice big ones on a server, don't just use eBay's picture service.
4.) How often do buyers come back complaining that something is broken or paint peeled or scratched?
I had one guy mention some parts had come loose from a diorama, but he was happy with it, and was well aware that something like that could happen. A figure I sold lost his head, but again, the buyer wasn't concerned. That was an item shipped from the US to Hong Kong. Pack it well, communicate with the buyer, and make sure he/she is prepared for minor surgery to the item, and you'll minimize problems. That said, you never know what a buyer will complain about!
Cheers
