I think those are excellent points. Several weeks ago I was itching to do a little figure painting, and I happened to be at the local Hobbytown. Of all the DML figures in release, the ONLY ones they had were...Germans. So I walked out with a box of Volksturm. Similarly I got of work early today and decided to go to the local hobby shop. Not too many pickings other than German except for a few modern subjects. I was going to walk out with a Pz. IIIL, but put it back in favor of a jeep and CCKW.
I think the desire is out there. Just anectodally speaking, it seems like the rabid German fans are dropping in number, or at the very least, it seems that there is an increasing desire for Allied subjects. But when you go to the hobby store, and your choices are what are on the shelf (German), then it shouldn't be any surprise that there are 900+ German entries in the gallery here.
Regardless, I agree with your points about subject matter on a personal level. The AFV Club M3A3 is interesting, but I'm not going to go out of my way to get one. Similarly, the M4A2. OTOH, if AFV Club released an M5 I'd fall over myself trying to get one!
