For me, I haven't talked about it much because I'm still rather dumbfounded and just shocked by the enormity of the damage and the casualties. At the rsik of saounding flip or disrespectful about it, these numbers are starting to look Stalingrad-esque or Verdun-esque.
As to the off-topic nature of such things, those individuals need to re-examine their priorities, step away from the hobby table for a bit, and get some perspective along with a life. This isn't a request to help the Swedish Bikini Team or a "Go >insert favorite sports team here>" chant that someone's posted. This is a reminder that the survivors of perhaps the single worst natural disaster in a couple hundred years need our help in any way, shape, form, or fashion we can give it. Helping people when they truly need it couldn't be any more ON topic.
FWIW, if any of us live in the larger cities where the affected countries have consulates/embassies, condoloence books have been made available for people to sign. The lines are long, so plan accordingly.
