Hi Paul,
I am not building the AA Centurion as of yet (I am at school and I don't have the time/tools for a full resin kit). I did try to get an AA A30 Challenger built, but the kit was from 1989 or 1990 and there were multitudes of air bubbles to fill in addition to seriously warped parts. It's still a fun experience though, but I don't see myself completing it in the next few months.
I AM currently involved in trying to get a Tamiya Centurion to look reasonably good. My projected goal is to be as cheap as possible and see how much can be done with everyday household materials. The model is beginning to take shape now, although I made a serious fundamental mistake with the canvas mantlet cover.
That is the reason why I ask lots of Centurion questions lately. I stopped trying to make it 100% accurate since the Bronco Centurion announcements a few weeks ago.
I DO have the Accurate Armour Centurion Mk.11 kit (along with the AA Desert Storm Centurion AVRE). These two kits are BEAUTIFUL. Sometimes I use the Accurate Armour parts as guidelines for my project with the Tamiya kit.
The problem I have with AA kits is the same as yours, namely that they are too expensive. But they do make some really interesting subjects! I got mine from Mission Models, but if I get another AA kit, it will be direct from Scotland next time!
And yes, I do like Comets!
Cheers!
