I agree with you about the trade-off between size and detail. I think that it would be worthwhile to include detail photos, but they need to be relevant to the text of the review- if the reviewer says a kit has the best roadwheels he's ever seen, show us the roadwheels. I admit I like looking at sprue shots, but seeing them has never made or unmade a buying decision.
