| Subject: | What makes a competition winner? | |
| Date: | Feb 15, 2005 |
| From: | Andrew Johnson | |
I suspect this debate has occurred many times, but a recent local competition made me wonder a little about what judges look for in an AFV model.
My assessment of the winners in this local competition goes like this
1st Entirely scratch built
2nd An odd esoteric subject (WWI armoured car)
3rd A surgically altered model (topless HUMVEE)
4th Smooth and elegant Hummel
What would you put as the single most important characteristic in an AFV model?
For me there is only one thing, realism. No matter whether it is yet another Tiger tank, or Sherman I would give top marks to the model that appeared the most convincing. For me this would include appropriate markings and most particularly weathering.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
