Andrew,

It depends on the organization that's doing the judging. Both IPMS and AMPS have their judging rules available for review on their websites. While I may not agree with the rules, I do give them credit for making them public so you know what you're getting into.

AMPS is a little more along the lines of what you wrote in your e-mail. IPMS focuses more on the modeling aspects (construction, finsh, etc.) and less on accuracy and 'sex appeal'.

I've come to learn and believe that what is chosen as the winner in any competition is not necessarily the best model. Its only the best model based onthe judging rules and the judges that day. Personally, I love to go to the competitions, and when I win, I'm excited. But when I loose, I don't get to upset since because of what I stated above. Its more fun to go and pesent your stuff and meet others and see what people are doing. Much as we might like to believe otherwise, judging will always be subjective so I wouldn't get to worked up if what the judges choose and what you feel should have won don't match.
