| Subject: | Reviews - Too Many High Ratings | |

I was thinking about all of the high rating reviews of new products these days. It seems that every new model kit or after-market product is given a pretty high rating or recommendation by whomever does the review. Come on, everything can't be this great. So what's up?
Are the reviewers purposely giving products higher ratings as not to upset the producer of the kit. Are they doing this so because they are friends with the producer? Afraid of repercussions? Wanting more "free" samples? Or are the reviewers just plain wrong?
Aren't all of these high ratings damaging? I see a lot of room for improvement in even the best kits, if everything is given top marks now then how can stuff get better? I realise that the bar is continually raised by better and better kits, take the DML Tiger for example, but it seems like giving these kits high ratings as time goes on will make everything equally good. I considered the logic of going back and re-rating older kits by today's standards, this was not warmly received. So you may now see the problem... EVERYTHING will be the same high rating no matter when it was produced...
Incidentally: the system here is a five-star rating. Which is really only meant as a quick guide to the _general_ impression the kit leaves on the reviewer. It's not cast in stone. 3/5 stars is a good rating, 4/5 is excellent, 4.5/5 or 5/5 is reserved for the absolute best. I've seen a lot of new kits getting 4-5 stars that should not be getting such a high rating.
