Holland, also known as Kingdom of the Netherlands.

With about 16 million people over all.

Eversince the mid ninetees, toyshops connected to the Blokker concern ( and that is pretty much every toy shop in holland ) stopped selling plastic model kits and model trains, the hobby has been in a decline.

Sure, there are enough modellers still around, but most kids simply grasp the pleasure of instant entertainment that a playstation offers better.

Still, voices rise that lack of having hobbies is a main contributor for arrested creative/ investigative/ curiosity/ technical development.

Still, the hobby is making a comeback. Lots of attention for WW2 in the last 5 years especially added to that.. people want a sherman tank again ( thanks of band of brothers ), or a bren carrier ( thanks to grandpa's pics of the liberation ).

Therefore, I'd say the dutch situation at present is recovery and hopefull.

hth,

Richard Renes
