>>Dragon has considerable revenues from other sources and can absorb sub-optimal revenues from these kits. Can AFV Club and Tristar?

At least AFV Club has. Probably the owner of Tristar has too.

> I see Dragon's recent releases targeting AFV Clubs 251 series, Pak 40, Tiger 1 and announced 88, and Tristar's Panzer I (yes, I know they arn't identical) and Panzer IVD in that light. Occasionally, market research will end up with two companies producing the same kit, but this is too coincidental.

Well, that is quite true when we look at things in retrospect. But any producer here knows that German mainstream vehicles are on DML's list. When they plan to produce one, they know what DML will come after them.

My kudos to these smaller manufacturers. They are heading in harm's way and they knew it. When DML released a Kingtiger, you dn't have to be a prophet to tell they would do a Tiger sooner or later. Then someone wanted to make it faster than DML. That resulted in a faster schedule and better kit from DML.

DML started 1/35 AFV kits more or less the same time as AFV Club, and many years later than Academy. The market share proves DML is doing the right thing in marketing. We modelers may not like it. If AFV Club and Tristar were driven out of business, so what? It is a free market, and there will be new AFV Club, new Tristar; but I don't think AFV Club or Tristar will be out because of the recent competitions.
