There is a general thread regarding this subject a little down.

Personally I have not tried any of those cameras however, both seems to be a good choice. I think I would go for the Canon S70 because of the better wide angle (135 - 28 mm eqvalent), that makes it more generally usable in many indoor and scenery situations.

Unfortenately digital compact cameras do not have the same depth of field control as an SLR camera, but it is easy to take as many pictures of a subject you like and immedeately review the results...and then just throw away those you do not prefer.

Regarding the macro function you should also try the it out on what focal length it is operating on in macro mode, as many of this types of cameras are operating on max wide-angle. This enables the photographer to get real close - but the images will be somewhat distorted.

As these cameras have built in a whole photo lab inside you should also take care of out the White Balance (color correction), and picture control options - you do not need any filters on digital cameras.....

I have a Nikon 5400 I bought a year and a half ago. It is Ok but it is a bit slow - so you should also take care how fast the camerea process the images.

Hope this helps
