I started the Newfoundland chapter of IPMS in St. John's in the late 70's and that is still going strong with some of the same members still showing up!

I've been a member of Peel Scale modelers in Brampton (just NW of Toronto, ON, Canada) for the entire 22 years I have been off the island. As many of you know, I am also the president of AMPS.

The Peel meetings have been described as "A pub with a modelling problem" as it is a very social bunch. We meet in a community centre and there's a case of beer in the fridge and pizza delivered about half way through the evening. Most meetings there's a speaker on pretty much any topic we can get someone to explain, from techniques to slide shows to the camo & markings of the Tuvalu Air Force. There is a healthy mix of specialities with about an equal number of armour, car & aircraft guys. A number of us build Sci-fi as well with the scattered ship builder and airline guy thrown in. Membership dipped as low as 15-18 guys in the early 90's but we have a healthy 31 members right now.

We meet from September to May on the third Tuesday of the month. In december we have a Xmas gift exchange where yuo bring in a model for another member (a randomly chosen gift the usually ends up being part of the post opening gift swap as armour guys try to pass on their Breguet bombers to the aircraft guys). The last meeting of the year is a flea market where you can try to seel your less loved kits to other members and in the summer we have a BBQ at one of the guys houses with free food & beer (that was just this past Tuesday & I think we had 20 guys show up).

It's a great bunch and contains some great modellers. I have been proud to be a member for all of the years I have been associated with them. Anyone in the Toronto area on a third Tuesday is more than welcome to contact me and come on out for a meeting.
