| Subject: | Re: Question on T-55's wood log | |

The log would definetly be solid, I gained this from first hand experience while on active duty. I was lucky enough to attend the OPFOR vehicle course at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, and we had the oppurtunity to train on the T-55.
Many people, to include mmyself thought that the log was provided for self recovery, which it could still be used for. But we were told by the folks at APG that log was used to raise the elavation, or provided additional depression when firing. This was due to the limited elavation & depression of the T-55, due to it's extremely low profile.
The log would be placed under the front set of roadwheels to get more elavation, and under the rear roadwheels to get more depression.
Hope this was of some help.
