Apparently the reason for paring down the number of M1 series vehicles is there
is something new. The Intermediate Brigade Combat Team; which is going to be
centered around the Stryker vehicle. This vehicle is very much like the LAV-III
or maybe it is that vehicle( I've just heard that name in relation to the IBCT).
It's been a big bone of contention between the heavy, tracked vehicle proponents
versus those who envision the US fighting wars with lighter, fewer troops and
lighter equipment.
I think this move to the light side has something to do with the ability to
deploy to a hot spot as quickly as possible.
