Hello Dennis,
Yes, that is part of why the Army is eliminating some of it's M1 variants. The main reason is the expense of maintaining different versions and the lines required to maintain them. The M1A2 was primarily designed with the Russian hordes in mind. It is an awesome defensive vehicle, but for a mobile battle the other variants are better. Less heads in the senors and more out of the hatch fighting.
